Devotionals

Confession #1: I went to the Christian bookstore to get one of those license plate frames for my car that says something "Christiany" on it, but I didn't like anything I saw/ I stealthily looked around for them because I was actually too embarrassed to let anyone see that that was the reason I went there.

Confession #2: My prayer life has been pretty bad lately, as well as my Bible reading. So I looked into the Bible study and the devotional sections. As a result, I bought a Bible study on Prayer, and a 365 day devotional book on feeling peace in the presence of God.

Lately (especially today), I've been having trouble relaxing and knowing that God has it all planned out for me. Instead I'm more like a rabid raccoon hopped up on Starbucks coffee, who's mind is racing faster than her PR time. This past week I have been turned down by a few potential jobs and some doors have closed. At the moment I'm waiting to hear about a possible temporary job working as a paralegal in WV, and feeling anxious to start some kind of income-generating activity.

To focus on something else, yesterday I started restoring my 1978 Schwinn Le Tour III. As it turns out, restoring a bike also costs money-- one of those things I don't have. Fortunately, I have soap and some WD-40, some old bike seats and synthetic cork handlebar tape to suffice for now.

The thing is though, is that what I need to be focusing on right now is God. I mean, sure God can appreciate a good bike when He sees one, but at the moment He's really focused on drawing my attention back to Him. He's reminding me that the focus needs to be on Him and that everything else falls into place after that. He's like "remember the time you tattooed your feet with sparrows on them to remind yourself not to worry-- that I've got everything under control? Well, I've still got that, so relax, talk to me."

first post

For several years I've had a blog about preparing to go to Africa, going to Africa, returning from Africa, and then going back again. I liked that blog (www.sendmeghantoafrica.blogspot.com)-- actually I'd like to make a book using my blog entries, pictures, and some drawings about living in Sudan and Kenya. However, for some reason I'm not allowed to change my email address on there, to my current one, and so this is my new blog.

I don't know how often I'll actually write on it, or if I'll even tell anyone its out there in the bloggersphere; but here it is for now. Feel free to read through my old one too. It has some pretty interesting stories on life as a missionary.
